Hadi Sirika, the former Minister of Aviation during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, has been apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with an alleged money laundering investigation amounting to N8,069,176,864.00.

The EFCC reportedly detained Sirika over suspicions of his involvement in awarding a fraudulent contract to a company owned by his younger brother, Abubakar Sirika. Sources within the anti-graft agency revealed that the investigation into the aviation ministry’s activities under Sirika’s tenure included allegations of abuse of office, contract inflation, conspiracy, and diversion of public funds.

Sirika was reported to have arrived at the EFCC headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday, April 23, where he met with investigators and responded to inquiries regarding the alleged aviation ministry contract fraud.

The arrest of the former minister sheds light on the ongoing efforts by the EFCC to tackle corruption and financial misconduct within government institutions.
