₦124.8 Billion Withdrawal: EFCC Files Fresh Charges Against Emefiele

In a recent development reported by Marketinghub, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed fresh charges against Godwin Emefiele, alleging misconduct related to the implementation of the new naira notes policy during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the EFCC, Emefiele is accused of unlawfully approving the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation (CRFF) while in office. These charges come as part of a larger case file with No: CR/264/2024, dated April 2, 2024, in which Emefiele is set to be arraigned before Justice Hamza Muazu.

The charges against Emefiele include allegations of disobeying the law with the intent to cause injury to the public, abuse of money, illegal printing, among others. The EFCC’s top prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, is leading the case against Emefiele.

In response to these allegations, Emefiele’s legal team is preparing to mount a vigorous defense, emphasizing the former Central Bank Governor’s commitment to upholding the law and serving the public interest during his tenure.
