This grant program, initiated last week, forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategy to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on citizens. In December, a registration website was launched for the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, offering support to those in need.
In a recent development, over 100,000 small businesses across Nigeria have received N50,000 each under the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, also known as the Trade Grants Scheme. Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite revealed that these businesses, typically comprising one or two employees with an annual turnover below N3 million, are targeted for assistance.
The Trade Grant Scheme, focusing on sectors such as trading, food services, ICT, transportation, creative arts, and artisans, aims to distribute grants without repayment obligations. While the initial plan was to commence disbursements on March 9, 2024, the process began last week following the minister’s announcement.
To qualify for the grant, businesses must meet certain criteria, including being classified as micro-businesses and possessing a Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN). Successful applicants receive the grant amount directly into their bank accounts.
Minister Uzoka-Anite aims to extend assistance to one million micro-businesses across Nigeria’s local government areas. With approximately 100,000 businesses already benefiting from the scheme, efforts are underway to achieve the set target.
To apply for the grant scheme, aspiring recipients must follow a series of steps:
